Dr. Ajit Kumar Sinha was born on 6th August 1958 at Gaya, Bihar. He did graduation from Magadh University, M.Sc., LLB and PhD from Ranchi University. He started his carrier as scientist in Central Tasar Research and Training Institute, Central Silk Board, Ministry of Textiles, Govt. of India in 1982 and retired as a director in August 2018. Dr. Sinha’s performed extensive research on quantitative genetics and molecular breedingand genetics of tasar silkworm, Antheraeamylitta which includes whole Genome sequencing and DNA Bar-coding, Chromosomal and Mitochondrial DNA of Antheraeamylitta and lab to land program, dissemination of technologies in farmer’s field through extension activities. He published several research articles in reputed National and International Journals and also published Several books.

He performed extensive research and extension work for Economic development of Tasar farmers. As scientist and Director of the Central Tasar Research and Training Institute, Government of India, Ranchi, he filed eight patents and developed 12 technologies for Tasar Silk Industry and at field level.He was awarded with JHARKHAND RATAN in 2019 for his outstanding contribution in developing entrepreneurship for tasar farmers of Jharkhand.

During his tenure, the production of tasar was enhanced many folds from 468MT to 3268MT in last decade which includes increment in farmers’ Incomes significantly with an objective to double the income of the farmers as per strategy of Government of India.

He also received several other awards and recognition such as Letter of Appreciation from Smt. Droupadi Murmu, Hon’ble Governor of Jharkhand in 2018 and 2021, Shaurya Samman by Sutra excellence award in the category of education in 2021, Brandis Prize in 2017 by The Indian Forester, ICT Achievement award by ASSOCHAM, India in 2019, Best Organizational Award For Implementation of MKSP in Jharkhand by MORD, CSB, Pradanin 2018, Life Time Achievement Award by International Consortium of Contemporary Biologist in 2017, Life Time Achievement Award by ASSOCHAM, India in 2018 and Senior Scientist Award by International Consortium of Contemporary Biologistin 2009. Dr. Sinha also awarded with Naman Bharat Gaurav Award 2021 by NIFESR, Mahatama Gandhi Human Rights Award 2022, A National level award by NHRCCB and Etc.

Dr. Sinha also worked as Pro-Vice Chancellor at Vinoba Bhave University, Hazaribag, Jharkhand since 29th May, 2020 to 20th June 2022. He worked a lot for the Implementation of New Education Policy in Vinoba Bhave University,Hazaribag .Under his Leadership different colleges of V.B.U situated in Rural and Tribal area conducted NEP- 2020 Seminars and workshops. Dr. Sinha created a dynamic academic environment in V.B.U.

Presently, Dr. Sinha is working as Vice Chancellor, Ranchi University,Ranchi since 21st June 2022.Under his Leadership Ranchi University is working very hard for Educational Reformation in different colleges situated Tribal, Backward and inspirational districts like Ranchi, Lohardaga, Gumla, Khuti and Simdega.Regularlyworking for the implementation of New Education Policy-2020 & Vision of Viksit Bharat 2047 at various colleges or institutions under Ranchi University. Under his visionary leadership Ranchi University became first university of Jharkhand who implemented NEP -2020.

Dr. Sinha is also worked as Vice Chancellor (Additional Charge) VinobaBhave University, Ranchi, Jharkhand. During the tenure of Vice Chancellor took several decisions for the betterment of university and to create academic environment in short Spain of time.
